Informed Consent: A Poem

Consent; granting permission   Informed consent; granting permission with complete knowledge and complete understanding  Granting permission with complete cognition  Informed consent ______________________________________ I entered this building today Exhaust and sweat Excitement and fear Chaos, controlled chaos Arriving, leaving, then arriving again An inexhaustible stream Blood in and blood out Sadness and anger  Hopes and dreams  Truth and illusions  Beginning and ending Never ceasing  Beginning and ending I entered this building today Cold and hazy Bleak and endless ______________________________________ Informed consent Consent; granting permission  Informed consent; granting permission with complete knowledge and complete understanding  Granting permission with complete cognition  Informed consent ______________________________________ Lying in this bed A tangle of tubes and wires I...

Happiness: A Poem

Head tilted upwards, eyes half shut, they laugh. They laugh so hard. At moments, they stop. And they look at you. They say something. And then, they laugh. Again. They laugh, as though they have not a worry in the world. They laugh, as though they’re actually happy. You don’t know if they are. You can only assume. And you want to. Because, God. That laugh. Loud. And hearty. Effusive. And completely unrestrained. You don’t know them. They don’t know you. And yet, they speak to you, In ways no one before, has. Without words, they speak to you. With only their laugh, they speak to you. They tell you, that it is possible. The kind of happiness that you, Almost all your life, have been searching for. They tell you, that it is very, very much possible. Happiness; not because of all that was. Happiness; not because of all that shall be. But happiness; Only and only because of all that, right now, is. They tell you, that it is possible. They tell you, that it is true. They laugh, and they inst...

Unapologetic: A Write-Up

From extreme political views to a pandemic. From racism to violence. In this last one year, so much has happened that will forever be a part of our history. It's time to finally come together, and learn from these events. It's time to stand up for what is right. The 28th of June, 2020 -it will mark 50 years since the New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, setting off a series of protests by the city’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community that proved to be a vital catalyst in the movement against discrimination. Thirty years later, the month of June went on to be designated as the 'Pride month,' inspiring the community across the globe to come out and stand up for themselves, unapologetically. In the words of Tammy Baldwin, the first openly gay Senator in the United States, “There will not be a magic day when we'll wake up and it’ll be okay to express ourselves publicly. We will have to make that day by doing things publicly until it’s simply the ...

Abundance: A Poem

I smile at you. You don’t smile back. I ask you questions. Questions, to which I already know the answers. Questions, to which you always wrongly reply. You try, and you conceal it. You try, and you contain it. You do all that you can to not let it show. You do all that you can to not let it out. But your eyes. Your eyes, they give away. Your eyes, they tell the truth. And now, I know. Not speech, it’s magic. Not bland, vacuous phrases, it’s sentiment. Your words, they say what they never mean. Your words, they mean what never can be said. I smile at you. You don’t smile back. And I smile at you -again. Because now, I know. It’s not the lack of it. It’s the abundance. Love, a feeling of attachment and affection, a feeling so strong that it makes the world go round. This enigmatic emotion, it empowers us to accomplish impossible tasks, to exceed all boundaries. It's one of the most beautiful and amazing parts of life. And as appealing as it is, it can be intimidating for a lot of pe...

Silver Lining: A Poem

This darkness, once it's over. We might not remember -how right now, we're surviving. This state of things, this shame it brings. This isolation, this divided nation. Our senses, all engaged to inertia. Our walking life, forced into sleep. And all of us -lost. Lost in this peace. This darkness, once it’s over. We might not remember -how, right now, we’re feeling. Inside circles, behind masks. Quiet, gloomy eyes, minding their own tasks. Strange, how things have changed. It was smiles before, it's tears now. It was hope before, it's despair now. This darkness, once it’s over. We might now remember -what, right now, we’re going through. Sharing our lives, from a distance. Giving love, from a distance. Seeing ourselves, from a distance. And seeing the world, from a distance. This darkness, once it’s over. We might not remember -what, until now, we’ve given up. Touch and movement. Conversation and connection. And most importantly, freedom. For life, we’ve given up freedom. ...

Repentance: A Poem

A heart; Once buoyant, now frail. Eyes, russet. Eyes, as pure as sunshine. Pure. But now, empty. Not all scars, they show. Not all wounds, they heal. “I’m alright,” she says with a smile. The truth, too dreich to reveal. The leaves, as they turned, Green to brown. She sat there, wondering -why. Why she always felt so down. People, they’d all come. People, they’d all leave. And yet. No one. No one would ever, Pay her any heed. The sun is shining. It’s shining bright. And yet. The wind, it’s blowing. They’re all full of zeal. And yet. Her dismay, it’s growing. It’s growing, and growing, and growing. She breathes. She breathes now. But soon. Will die. She still sits there, wondering. “Will anyone even cry?” Her body, it’s now six feet under. The soul, it’s astray. “My life, it wasn’t just a blunder.” The feelings, they betray. A heart; Once buoyant, now frail. Eyes, russet. Eyes, as pure as sunshine. Pure. But now, empty.
