Happiness: A Poem
Head tilted upwards, eyes half shut, they laugh.
They laugh so hard.
At moments, they stop. And they look at you.
They say something. And then, they laugh. Again.
They laugh, as though they have not a worry in the world.
They laugh, as though they’re actually happy.
You don’t know if they are.
You can only assume.
And you want to.
Because, God. That laugh.
Loud. And hearty.
Effusive. And completely unrestrained.
You don’t know them.
They don’t know you.
And yet, they speak to you,
In ways no one before, has.
Without words, they speak to you.
With only their laugh, they speak to you.
They tell you, that it is possible.
The kind of happiness that you,
Almost all your life, have been searching for.
They tell you, that it is very, very much possible.
Happiness; not because of all that was.
Happiness; not because of all that shall be.
But happiness;
Only and only because of all that, right now, is.
They tell you, that it is possible.
They tell you, that it is true.
They laugh, and they instil in you this hope.
They laugh, and they instil in you this conviction.
They laugh, and they tell you.
That everything will be alright.
They laugh, and they tell you.
That sooner or later, you will be alright.
Head tilted upwards, eyes half shut, they laugh.
They laugh so hard.
At moments, they stop. And they look at you.
They say something. And then, they laugh. Again.
They laugh, and that makes you happy.
Happy for them, and happy for yourself.
They laugh, and with them,
You laugh, as well.
