Repentance: A Poem
A heart;
Once buoyant, now frail.
Eyes, russet.
Eyes, as pure as sunshine.
Pure. But now, empty.
Not all scars, they show.
Not all wounds, they heal.
“I’m alright,” she says with a smile.
The truth, too dreich to reveal.
The leaves, as they turned,
Green to brown.
She sat there, wondering -why.
Why she always felt so down.
People, they’d all come.
People, they’d all leave.
And yet. No one.
No one would ever,
Pay her any heed.
The sun is shining. It’s shining bright.
And yet. The wind, it’s blowing.
They’re all full of zeal.
And yet. Her dismay, it’s growing.
It’s growing, and growing, and growing.
She breathes.
She breathes now.
But soon. Will die.
She still sits there, wondering.
“Will anyone even cry?”
Her body, it’s now six feet under.
The soul, it’s astray.
“My life, it wasn’t just a blunder.”
The feelings, they betray.
A heart;
Once buoyant, now frail.
Eyes, russet.
Eyes, as pure as sunshine.
